Out of the vapour-traced sky a Messerschmitt spins and plunges onto British soil. Even though the pilot is captured, he is extremely confident and an official interrogation does not deter him from his one objective - to escape and return home against all the odds. His bid for freedom takes him from England to Canada and into the still neutral United States - before making his way back to Germany. The One That Got Away stars Hardy Kruger (Barry Lyndon, Flight of the Phoenix) - a real-life prisoner of war, who escaped from the Americans on three occasions - as the cocky and charismatic von Werra, who is supported by numerous British screen legends including Michael Goodliffe (The Battle of the River Plate, The 39 Steps), Colin Gordon (The Baron, The Pink Panther) and Alec McGowan (Gangs of New York, The Importance of Being Earnest). It is directed by Roy Ward Baker - a stalwart of British films and filmed series (A Night To Remember, The Saint) since the late 1940s., The true, dramatic story of Franz von Werra, the only German prisoner-of-war in Britain to escape and return to his homeland.
